The world stands out on either side
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the world is stretched the sky, –
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can push the sea and land
Farther away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the face of God shine through.
But East and West will pinch the heart
That can not keep them pushed apart;
And he whose soul is flat — the sky
Will cave in on him by and by.

Renascence is the poem that turned me onto Edna St. Vincent Millay. I have all of her works.

Very very nice ! @-}-}–
She’s always been one of my favorites. Beautiful, serene photo.
Excellent pairing.
*sigh* too lovely for words…
reminds me of my latest trip down to the keys…beautiful sunsets!
This picture evokes a desire to go home, feel the sun, touch the sand, laugh at those who warn we’re going to drop off into the ocean someday. My soul rests some part of everyday in California.
As al-ways thanks- You touch my heart and soul with Your posts.
very catching colors. there’s peace and contentment in the picture. it’s nice to know that even in our smallness, in all the grandeur of mother-earth, what we have within can be compared to her. if only people would keep that in mind..
i hope that when i reach your age.. i could have such strength and serenity like you do.
beautiful. that photo made me breathe more deeply tonight…

(breathtaking, see? I’m gasping…)
that poem is, as always, perfect for the image…
Ooooh!
Pictures that show shadows against the sunset are among the most beautiful in my opinion.
