There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you…. In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. Ruth Stout

Ain’t that right. Winter is for holing up, eating and sleeping and doing quiet personal things. We should restructure work and other social obligations to reflect that…
…ah! the winter so you can bury yourself…I love to bury myself under the blankets, that’s bed blankets not blankets of snow!
So true. I love it when the snow plow come by until late.
Holy-moly! I’m glad we weren’t buried in THAT much ice!
omg…that is soooo much snow! i LOVE this photo! you do fantastic on indoor things….i don’t do them very well at all! but i think your outdoor shots are fantastic too!! but maybe we should go into business together, and we’d have all the grounds covered…oh..except portraiture…i do NOT do people well!! we’d need a people shooter too!
Nice quote and pic…as per usual. hope there aint a homeless bod sleeping under all that snow
you miss my mug shot on my profile? well its at the cop shop at the moment LOL.
yes, I’ve had a big drama, a major meltdown. you’ve probably noticed that i deleted all my past entries and pics too. want to start over and thought I could wipe my slate clean, be anomonous…it didn’t work for some reason
privacy… solitude…*sigh*
i own that very bench!
What? More snow????
Lovely photo. When I think of the solitude of winter “The Shining” comes to mind. That’s just the way my twisted mind works. I’ve never really experienced the solitude of winter because I spent my whole life in Texas and now I’m in New Mexico. People are always bugging me.
That looks like the bench in our back yard last week
. Great photo….
lol this shot captures this winter so well.
Wow, I’ve looked at several day’s blogs here, and the pictures are lovely, the quotes are fantastic and I am entertained! Thanks sweetie.
I do love the pictures, esp the one of the bench in snow.
Thanks for caring!
LOVE this photo. And finally, someone born before the 80′s! (no offense to anyone)
That’s beautiful!
You mean you all huddle indoors alone cos of the weather while me and my mates are out on the beach all year long!
I’m just being facetious, don’t mind me. I don’t like the cold, but I do know what you mean and I think your pics are fab. Esp your cabin.
You have to savor belonging to yourself cuz you ain’t gonna get a friend to sit on that bench with you.

My houseguests depart Wednesday morning… and I am looking forward to ‘belonging to myself’ again!

Well, we don’t get that much here, but we have most other places I’ve lived. Nothing beats snow for that insular soundlessness.
RaeW.
i feel like that bench, stuck and cannot get outta here
…great pic!

You’d have a lot of privacy sitting on that bench! Of course, you would also have a very cold butt!
You are right about the blessings of solitude. I remember being snowed-in in the winters in Illinois. Being a solitary soul, I loved every minute of it.
A hot cup of something, an afghan, a cozy chair, and a good book…winter joy supreme!
Wow, that’s incredible.. London grinds to a halt with two inches of white stuff which lasts maybe two, three days! I’ve no idea how we’d cope with that much snow!
I loved this pic!! I’m submitting it to this week’s ZangaZine
……..only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself……
Nice quote. I just savored three days of belonging to myself. I so love not talking, just wirting, reading and listening to music.
what a cool photo… makes me cold though!! i’ve never been in that much snow in my life!
