What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say, ‘This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!’ Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, ‘Never have I heard anything more divine? Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

  • I used to love to stand at the front window and look at the frost close up… like this.  The patterns are always so different!

  • Another GORGEOUS photograph! ~Love~ it! (HATE the quote.)

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I asked,
“Is life a multiple choice test or is it a true or false test?”
Then a voice comes to me out of the dark, and says,
“We hate to tell you this, but life is a thousand word essay.”
    Charlie Brown, Peanuts
    – Charles Schulz

“I am not going to live what is expected of me,
but what I create out of my own heart and mind.”
    – Jann Arden

  • I’d do this life again.

  • To live my life over? Probably not. Do I occasionally entertain the idea that we have to recycle until we get it right? Oh yes!

    Another great pic!

  • i would say never had i heard anything more divine, to be certain! but like nance, i would hope that i would be allowed to learn from my mistakes and perhaps then avoid them the next time around….but even if not, if i had it all to do over again, i would!

  • Beautiful pictures.

The quote brings up some interesting questions. Would I know that I was oing it again? If not, then I guess I could handle it. If I did know, then I would want to change things – you know, not taking that chance, speaking when I should have stayed quiet, not buying those amazing shoes…

  • hmm,not sure.  But I love your site and will be referring my photographer boyfriend to it as well.

    little old ladies rule!

I would go to the parish I mentioned in my blog forever, but I have to move in 2 weeks   So no more St. Gabe’s.

  • Another beautiful capture… and a thought-provoking quote by that old bastard. Well, if I were to live again, I would NOT choose to live the same way. I’d consider turning into a cat if I had a choice

  • I would so not want to live other my life the same way, how utterly boring!

  • This life of mine has been pretty good, so I would give it a go again.   But I would hope to improve myself the second time.   Not allowed?   Then I wouldn’t want to do it.   To have to cry at mistakes over and over again.  To hurt someone again.  To be hurt again.

    No.

As for the photo.   I see the jagged teeth of the monster and his open mouth is about to devour me.    Chilling in more ways than one.

  • …a stunning photo to contrast in the series!
…enjoyed the quote from Nietzsche; which, I am currently reading his Existentialist philosophy. MuSe

  • Thank you for your comments.

I’ve read the book where the quote resides, it’s a concept called the eternal recurrence. Considering Nietzsche tried to avoid the metaphysical realm I’m surprised he resorted this idea. I have to say I don’t agree with it.
