I went to ground zero in November of last year, but I didn’t take any photos. I felt somehow that if I did it would trivialize what I saw. Bent metal and smoke…a thickness in my lungs…blocks and blocks of memorials…a wave of sadness swept over me and I said a silent prayer.

When I went to Manhattan I couldn’t even make myself go to Ground Zero. I saw where the towers were supposed to be from the Circle Line ferry that we took around the island. That was as close as I could get.

I have only seen it in the media and of course, in my heart. I would like to forget, but I hope we remember.
seeing where the towers had been gave me a sense of reality. i really recommend it for people who are having trouble getting a grasp on the hugeness of the situation. i guess it’s especially helpful if you’re familiar enough with the city to be able to register the vacancy. but i’m going back in a week or two, with my boyfriend who hasn’t been. we’ll see if it makes as big an impact on him… it’ll also be interesting to see how things have changed in a few months. i’ve always felt a close connection with the city, now, more than ever… i think i’m even going to move there in a year…
a fitting blog to mark the occasion. The candle flame is perfect
