We have a TINY oak in our front yard…about 6 inches? My son had picked up acorns in the park, and then I made him throw them out before we went into the house. One of them held its ground! I think it’s cool that this little tree came about from my son’s propensity for collecting things in his pockets. I just wish it would grow a bit faster. This is the second year, and it’s still so small. We have a stake next to it to remind us not to mow over it.
If you have oaks, you must have squirrels. I like both.
Mom, not only do we have squirrels, we have VERY talkative ones! they chortle and tap there feet on the tree bark, it’s quite odd. we have 2 regulars in the back and have named them “Jimmy & Patrick” after our old downstairs neighbors speaking of wildlife, i saw a flock of quail the other day…probably about a dozen..didn’t have my camera with me, but they are so pretty!
I used to have a lot of trees in my yard. We also had a lot of animals that would enjoy our yard as well. I loved my yard for the most part.It would take a long time to mow if I couldn’t get anyone to help me but we all enjoyed it a lot as long as it was kept up. I had over 30 trees. We added more after we moved in.Some to added to the landscaping.Others were added because we loved fresh fruit. So we were trying to give back to nature what it blessed us with.My son too also like to put stuff in his pockets as well. I told him he better not ever put a snake in them .
Yes I am on Facebook as well my son got me on that as well as my space LOL kids do that to you . As a kid I uses to tease and pick up snakes.
What a cute quote. It somehow reminds me of the one about how the strongest trees have weathered the toughest storms. All true, I think.
When we attended the beer tent at the Cow Chip Festival, I kept thinking that I was standing on hundreds of deer dung, but it was hundreds of acorns. Ow.
