My Mom and I taking a dip. those are seaweed pom-poms
Downtown Port Arthur, TexasThese photos were all taken in 2006, the last time I visited home. I as born and raised in Port Arthur. My Mom and Dad were planning on staying for hurricane Ike, but got a 3:30 a.m. call to evacuate on Friday morning. They are now safe in a hotel in Athens Texas, but have no idea when they will get to go home, or what damage they may go home to. I also have a aunt that lived on Galveston Island. Certainly there are questions as to the condition of her home. One of my brothers lives in Magnolia Texas, outside of Houston near Conroe, I am unsure at this time of his whereabouts, hopefully someone in his trailer park helped him to safety (he is disabled).
UPDATE: My brother in Magnolia is fine. Him and his dog Buick rode it out. No power still there, but everything is intact. My Mom & Dad are hoping to return to Port Arthur on Sept. 23rd when power is supposed to be restored un Port Arthur.

I hope they are all okay, and that their homes are not damaged! How troubling. I know your mom was not planning to evacuate. I’m glad they’re safe.
Everyone at our home has been thinking of your parents and aunt and brother a lot, hoping for the best.
I miss your mom at Xanga in the meantime. And, at Scrabble!!
Why in the world didn’t I think to check here for information! I figured you had her cell number, I sure didn’t. Thanks I passed it on to Circle of Friends when you talk to her.
glad your parents are ok. thinking good thoughts
Just popped over from your Moms site to thank you again for letting us know they are both ok–Hope their home is ok too.
I was glad to hear your parents are some where safe, here’s hoping things at there place are safe.
Love the pictures, specially the one of you and your Mom…

I read your update on Ava’s blog first. I’m glad to know they’re ok. Your brother? Is he alright?
I love the picture of you and your mom, too. You both look so completely happy.

i’ve been expecting to hear from you about this hurricane. i hope your parent’s place is ok and that the rest of your family there are safe too. is this the house you grew up in? it’s tough when your “safe spot” gets disturbed. again i hope everyone is fine.

I’m glad your parents okay and I hope for nothing but the best for your brother. Our friend Daryla’s brother lives in Houston and he decided to weather out the storm. He and his wife are fine, but he says they’ll never do that again. Love the picture of you and your mom!
Thanks for posting info about your Mom and Dad on her site. I didn’t know about you, so did not know to check here. I had asked, on my site, a few days ago, if anyone had heard from her. She had said, previously, that they thought they’d just try to ‘ride it out’. GLAD THEY DIDN’T DO THAT!!! It has to be SO hard for them, with all the health problems. Hope you hear about your brother soon too. What a worry!!! Keep us posted. GrannyHummingbird
Thank you so very much for letting us know about your Mom and Dad. I sincerely hope your brother is safe, too. That’s a wonderful, happy picture of you and your mother in the waves!

I lived in Florida during the sixties and seventies. We had hurricanes but nothing like what whirls up these days. It’s gotten worse.
Sheesh! That street reminds me of The Last Picture Show.
Glad things are getting somewhat back to normal. Love those pom-poms!
Thank you very much, Molly. I’m so glad to hear your brother is all right, too. Your folks are wise to stay where they are until the electricity is restored to their home. I lived with no electricity for 2 weeks after the ice storm of ’98 and it was miserable! I would never do it again! But I had livestock to tend.

so you are truly a south land girl. i sure hope everything turns out not to be as bad as it could,,,i’ve been watching local tv stations here from the start of ike. i’m hoping your parents find their home in reasonable stability. i do think this time (as compared to katrina) that things were a lot better organized,,,saving people and saving pets. i just hope everyone has a place they can gather and get some relief, some groups who can help deal with those that have lost so much down there.
anyway, i don’t mean to get negative here. i’m just concerned for your family and am sending positive thoughts that direction. <3
