  • Ike remains

Update: My Mom and Dad are back home safely! Be sure and welcome Mom back if you haven’t already – Ava South. I will be going home in a couple of weeks to help clean up. Luckily, the house did well and there’s just debris to clean up.

    Downtown Port Arthur, Texas

These photos were all taken in 2006, the last time I visited home. I as born and raised in Port Arthur. My Mom and Dad were planning on staying for hurricane Ike, but got a 3:30 a.m. call to evacuate on Friday morning. They are now safe in a hotel in Athens Texas, but have no idea when they will get to go home, or what damage they may go home to. I also have a aunt that lived on Galveston Island. Certainly there are questions as to the condition of her home. One of my brothers lives in Magnolia Texas, outside of Houston near Conroe, I am unsure at this time of his whereabouts, hopefully someone in his trailer park helped him to safety (he is disabled).

UPDATE: My brother in Magnolia is fine. Him and his dog Buick rode it out. No  power still there, but everything is intact. My Mom & Dad are hoping to return to Port Arthur on Sept. 23rd when power is supposed to be restored un Port Arthur.

  • Regard this fleeting world like this

    The Radiant Buddha said:
Regard this fleeting world like this:
Like stars fading and vanishing at dawn,
like bubbles on a fast moving stream,
like morning dewdrops evaporating on blades of grass,
like a candle flickering in a strong wind,
    echos, mirages, and phantoms, hallucinations,
    and like a dream.
The Eight Similies of Illusion, from the Prajna Paramita Sutras
