In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of sand there is the story of the earth. Rachel Carson
Since my Mom said she liked Rachel Carson, I thought I’d look her up. What a fascinating person: Rachel Carson.org

What a collection–did you gather them up, or was this just a happy accident of placement?
Makes me long for the beach…
very beautiful photos
Extremely beautiful placement….
i answered Smarticus on her blog and said that this indeed was just a happy accident! this shot, like the last few was taken on the beach in La Jolla and it had many, many treasures on it’s shores.
you are so attentive and you know what to do when you find a gem – take the photo is what you do. Cheers
The quote really captures the feel.
A whole universe in a grain of sand.
Great photo. Inspiring.
nature can be so beautiful it boggles the mind.
Oh, my. You know you have me with this one. I want to be there. ~sigh~ I love the color of the sand. Ours here is more yellow.
Mom
Oh, I forgot to mention the quote. I love Rachel Carson. God lives big in the sea and the shore.
Mom
that has all the stuff, balance, colour, texture. it is a beautiful pic.
Makes it even better knowing that nature arranged it and you just recorded it. What better art?
I remember having to read Silent Spring in high school, and how much it touched me at the time and helped shape my view of how we relate to the world around us.
Pretty heavy stuff for a teenager who hated mandatory reading.
What an impact Rachel Carson’s ”Silent Spring” made — on a whole generation.
Nice post and the photo is really great!
ryc: it is an abandoned house i ventured into to photograph…
beautiful, absolutley beautiful. . .
Perfect perfect! Both the picture and the quote! And I love your profile pic!
So pretty! I was already longing for the beach but this is just compounding matters!
it is fun how people find significance in the seeming coincidence of improbability…
your photography captures that so well, it is always a pleasure to view them
thanks
Again, wonderful work.
ryc: Your Mom is wise. Thank you for that quote.

I wandered here after seeing a comment from you to macastat. I love your photos and will be back to feast my eyes again and again.
you have such a wonderful eye for the things
most people pass by… thanks for letting us into
your view… *~matthew~*
Thanks for the comment. You have some absolutely amazing photos here! The one today is breathtaking. I haven’t heard of Rachel Carson but I’ll go check her out.

The photos are really amazing! And yes, I admit it. I’m crazy for MacGyver, the mullet-wearing, duct-tape carrying, scientist/adventurer all-around good guy
Nothing wrong with that, as long as I’m not stalking him right? LOL
My God, that’s beautiful.
RYC: your photos are superb..they would catch my eye for sure..these were just straight on..headstones, out the car windshield, kinda blurry shots…
Just wonderful post, Judi
It is nice that your mom passed that on to you.
Yes, Molly, they all are in their own way.
I grew up with a father whose intellectual curiosity was beyond admirable. It”s so unfortunate that he died so long ago, years before the home computer age was born. You mention Rachel Carson and I recall my father’s impassioned discussions with me after reading “Silent Spring.” I can still see a copy of it on his nightstand, atop a copy of Will and Ariel Durant’s lastest volume, which of course was atop The Warren Commission Report, which lay on top of a copy of America, Inc.:Who Owns and Runs the United States, which rested on a volume of Thomas Mann’s “Stories of Four Decades.”. He was rarely satisfied with just one author’s approach and he’d do research on a topic until he exhausted his find. I often think that had he lived beyond 1977, he would have enjoyed the Internet and the treasure troves of information he’d be able to find…Forgive my rambling, all this over your mention of Rachel Carson! ~ Jeanne
