The Grotto – The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, Portland, Oregon
(click to enlarge…xanga really did a number on compression)After the bare requisites of living and reproducing, man wants most to leave some record of himself, a proof, perhaps, that he has really existed. He leaves his proof on wood, on stone, or on the lives of other people. This deep desire exists in everyone, from the boy who scribbles on a wall to the Buddha who etches his image in the race mind. Life is so unreal. I think that we seriously doubt that we exist and go about trying to prove that we do. John Steinbeck

it is so beautiful up there – nature – all green and rocky.

The evidence of my life is the progeny of ours and the way they act and think and have perfected what we tried to teach. Don’t need any marble anywhere.
Breathtaking photos and heart thumping quote. To think that what we do influences so much around us.

I stopped by there at the beginning of this trip. It was one of my wife’s favorite places when she lived in Portland.
What a cool place. It sparkes the imagination…how did it form…what people have seen it over the centuries…what did they do there?
ah,, making prints on people as we go….
that would be my goal… no other marker I can think of
when I depart…lol *~matthew~*
I often puzzle over the semantics of “exist” and “live.” Which do I truly want to do? Do I want to do both? etc.
Beautifully done.
very beautiful.
