  • Now you know where the term, “quick as greased lightening” comes from.    Though for the life of me, I can’t see how anyone could catch it to grease it!

The sky here is looking kind of troubled this morning.  Rain comin’.

  • …oh, I like your photos, great sky studies! Did you notice the sky renderings in themos100‘s latest ArtExchange entries? Your photos remind me of them. MuSe

  • *lol* i’ve never had any luck catching lightning bolts on film either…..but one day…….i will!

thanks for sharing the great pics!

  • That sky is certainly dramatic!

  • Well, since I’m on a politically-incorrect roll tonight, let me suggest to you a method for capturing lightning on film, Molly. I learned it from duck hunters (apologies to those this may offend). It might work for lightning too.

See, with ducks, the trick is you don’t shoot at the ducks. You shoot ahead of the ducks. (We’re talking ducks in flight here.)

The goal is for the ducks and the volley of shots to end up in the same air space at the same time.

Now, to transfer that logic to lightning. The calculations aren’t as obvious. But we do know that if you hit the shutter button when you see the lightning, it’ll be too late. So, and this is where the beauty of a digcam comes in (no $$ wasted on film and dev), just snap merrily and giddily away while there is no lightning.

You might want to do this with no one watching, as it may get a bit embarrassing.

  • Dang, I keep forgetting dem coins I’m supposed to drop in de tip glass… Here goes… 2-bits!

  • You have some wonderful photography on this site. I very much enjoyed it, thank you.
